My plans…

December 29, 2008

I think I am a little overwhelmed by the thought of going to Africa. I am really excited to go some place new and experience something completely different that what I am used to, but I also don’t know what to really expect so I am instead just in awe of the opportunity.

My plans:

I will be in Johannesburg from January 2 until the 6. I have not really decided what I am doing there. I’ve skimmed through a couple guide books, but I think I will wait for the 20 hour flight before I make any real plans.

January 6 through 21 will be spent in Cape Town. The schedule of the program appears to give me lots of time to enjoy the city and experience all that it has to offer. There’s an alternating morning/afternoon schedule, so I am never locked in to one schedule. There are a couple group excursions and evening activities planned, but a lot of the time is left up to ones own doing.

Finally, I think I will hit up Durban for a couple days. It’s three very different cities, but I don’t know when I will get back to South Africa (hopefully sooner, rather than later).

I return to New York on January 26.

January in South Africa

December 28, 2008

I’m leaving January 1 for a three and a half week adventure in South Africa. The majority of my time will be spent in Cape Town at the TCDS Cape Town Institute where I’ll be participating in a couple of classes for my graduate studies in International Affairs. Before heading to Cape Town, I will be visiting Johannesburg for a few days. After Cape Town, I am off to Durban for a couple days before returning home.

I hope to update this blog regularly while I am away with my thoughts, stories about what I am doing, and pictures.
